Based in Colombia, we operate the majority of our tours within the country, while also providing carefully curated experiences across Latin America. Through our Chinese partner, we offer the most popular routes in China, where it is possible to observe around 300 bird species in just 15 days, guided by experienced and English-speaking experts. Maria Luisa Castillo

Co-founder Birding & Nature Guide

Maria Luisa Castillo is a birding guide who began birdwatching at just 15 years old. Her passion for nature inspired her to pursue a degree in Biology, with a strong focus in ornithology. She started by conducting inventories in Merenberg Private Natural Reserve, one of the most iconic places for conservation in Colombia, where she also began guiding. Over the years, she has been involved in different research projects and has contributed to bird guidebooks and scientific papers, both as an author and as an assistant. She has experience guiding blind people and speaks English and Portuguese. Maria has experience helping people find birds across the different ecosystems of Colombia, offering visitors not only the opportunity to observe bird species but also to understand their ecological and behavioral dynamics.

Jose Luna Solarte

Co-Founder CEO Birding & Nature Guide

Jose Luna Solarte is a bilingual professional birding guide. His lifelong connection to the countryside nurtured his passion for nature. In 2007, through local conservation initiatives led by the non-profit organization Asociación Río Cali, he began developing his skills and knowledge in birdwatching. By 2010, he was working with Colombia Birdwatch and other national and international companies across all regions of Colombia. This experience allowed him to build a comprehensive vision of bird tourism, combining conservation with responsible travel. After more than ten years of experience, he became co-founder of Caracara Nature Tours, where he promotes high-quality experiences that connect visitors with each destination.

Miguel López Martínez

Birding Guide

Miguel, born in 1991, possesses a profound passion for birding and dedicated service. His journey into the world of birdwatching commenced at the age of 22. Initially, he embarked on his birding adventures as a guide at the Rio Blanco Reserve, situated in the central Andes of Colombia. Renowned as a watershed protector reserve for Manizales city, this place has always been one of the top birdwatching sites in Colombia. Over the course of four years, Miguel honed his skills and expertise as a local guide. His adeptness in English further fortified his capabilities, propelling him into the role of a national tour leader. Embracing this new chapter, Miguel has experience guiding for companies such as Colombia Birdwatch, Birding Tours Colombia, and Icaro Birding. Miguel is a charming guide who will make your birding experience in Colombia truly memorable.

Giancarlo Ventolini

Birding Guide

Giancarlo Ventolini Zuluaga, a publicist born in Santiago de Cali, has been part of Fundación Amatea since 2010, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoration and environmental education in rural areas around the city. Within the foundation, he has served as an Operational Technician and Environmental Interpreter. Since 2012, he has also been an avid birdwatcher, actively training as a bilingual guide. His passion for birds has led him to participate in research projects in areas such as km 18 and the San Antonio Forests, as well as numerous expeditions across the Colombian Andes, Inter-Andean Valleys, Caribbean, Eastern Plains, Choco Biogeographic region, San Andrés Archipelago, and the Amazonian Foothills. Currently, he works as a professional tour guide for various national and international birdwatching agencies. He has had the opportunity to participate as a support guide in birdwatching tours in northern Peru, the Beni savannas in Bolivia, and Costa Rica in Central America.

Jose Luis Borbón

Birding Guide

Jose Luis is a specialized birding guide since 2019 with extensive experience in the department of Cundinamarca and in the recent years, throughout the Colombia. He is multilingual, speaking English, German, and Portuguese. In addition to being a zootechnician, he is focus on birding beyond simply identifying birds, as he has a solid understanding of bird behavior, biology and ecosystems enabling him to provide highly informative and immersive experiences.

Anderson Muñoz

Birding Guide

Anderson is a professional birding guide with over a decade of experience leading birdwatching and bird photography expeditions throughout Colombia. His background as an Agro-environmental Technician allows him to integrate nature tourism with conservation, contributing to numerous research projects and bird protection programs across the country. He is currently an active member of the Asociación Río Cali, a non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable rural development, ecosystem conservation, and the promotion of ecotourism in the area surrounding the Farallones de Cali National Natural Park. Anderson’s passion for birds and photography is evident in every tour he leads with his expertise and interpretive skills. He has established himself as a leading guide in Colombia.
