After many years of collaboration and extensive travel across Colombia with bird photographers, we have meticulously crafted an itinerary that showcases the country's most extraordinary and renowned bird photography locations. Our journey commences in Medellin, in the northwest, and concludes in Cali, in western Colombia. This itinerary spans various ecosystems and includes visits to locations where bird feeders have been thoughtfully established, alluring some of the most stunning bird species. Some of the remarkable birds you can expect to encounter include the Andean Cock-of-the-Rock, Gray-breasted and Black-billed Mountain-Toucans, Sword-billed Hummingbird, Crescent-faced Antpitta, Multicolored Tanager, Toucan Barbet, Silver-throated Tanager, Saffron-crowned Tanager, and Red-headed Barbet. Additionally, our journey will take us through some of the most breathtaking landscapes, including the paramo, the coffee cultural landscape, and the Andean cloud forest.     Arrival to Medellin International Airport MDE

    Arriving to Medellin MDE Airport and drive to Jardin. At dinner time we will discuss about the itinerary and the next days.

    Bambusa and Andean Cock-of-the-rock Lek

    Bambusa and Andean Cock-of-the-rock Lek. In the morning we will go to Bambusa, in this place we spend the morning trying for pictures on Bay-headed Tanager, Green Jay, Blue-necked Tanager, the spectacular Andean Motmot, Rufous-tailed Hummingbird, Red-faced Spinetail, this is not just birds by the feeders, there is plenty of bird that surround this property, some of the birds hanging around could include Black-chested Jay, Guira Tanager, Squirrel Cuckoo, Flame-rumped and Crimson-backed Tanagers and more, this is for sure a tiny space that can be absolutely productive, then in the afternoon our mission is to get the best pictures on Andean Cock-of-the-rock which is one of the highlights of the entire trip.

    Andean Cock of the Rock Lek and drive to Manizales

    Andean Cock of the Rock Lek and drive to Manizales. During this morning we will visit the Andean Cock of the Rock lek and right after that get on the way to our next destination, Manizales where we are gonna be shooting for the next four days.

    Hacienda El Bosque

    Hacienda El Bosque. During our day four we will go to one of the most popular places in Colombia for bird photography where lots of Andean birds are possible to see by the feeders and also to the field while waiting for feeder pictures, this place has Hummingbirds, Antpittas, Tanagers and toucan feeders! Lots of remarkable birds with good chances to shoot. Some of those include Shining Sunbeam, Tyrian Metaltail, Tourmaline Sunangel, the unbelievable Sword-billed Hummingbird, the stunning but pretty hard to see; Crescent-faced Antpitta that comes to eat worms as well as the Ecuatorial Antpitta within Gray-browed Brush-finch, being this not enough we have to this place the chance to picture the magnificent Gray-breasted Mountain-toucan that comes to eat grapes, along with this the cute Hooded Mountain Tanager shows up to let us enjoy one of the biggest tanagers that exist, all of this for one day full of joy and outstanding pictures.

    Los Nevados National Park and Termales del Ruiz

    Los Nevados National Park and the Termales del Ruiz Hotel feeders. Colombia is well known for its beautiful scenery but this place we are visiting is one of the most stunning landscapes you can see in the country, this is the paramo ecosystem, with elfin forest, paramo rosemary, Speletias (tall plants with long leafs in the sun flower family), arnicas, lots of different flowers and grasslands no to mention the rocky areas; this makes of this place a unique environment full of beauty, up in the highlands we will look for one of the most interesting hummingbirds, the endemic Buffy Helmetcrest, in the way there other cool birds are likely as the Many-striped Canastero, Stout-billed Cinclodes, then in the afternoon the feeders to the Termales del Ruiz Hotel will enterntain us with lots of photo opportunities, some of the good birds there include the stunning Scarlet-bellied Mountain-tanager, Lacrymose Mountain-tanager, Glossy Flowerpiercer, Great Sapphirewing, Shinning Sunbeam, Golden-breasted Puffleg, Viridian Metaltail and more.

    Glamping El Color de mis Reves

    Glamping El Color de Mis Reves. From the hotel we will head to another wonderful place to photograph birds, a 4x4 adventure is necessary to get into one of the most delightful experiences we have in our trip, there in the place after a Colombian coffee the group moves to the first spot to try for birds to the feeders that include Blue-capped Tanager, Slaty Brush-finch, Sickle-winged Guan, Lachrymose Mountain-tanager, Slaty Brushfinch among others, in a small space we will find different attractions we will wait for the spectacular Black-billed Mountain-toucan while shooting Hummingbird like Long-tailed Sylph, Mountain Velvetbreast and Collared Inca, some other good ones include Bicolored Antpitta, Black-collared Jay and Hooded Mountain Tanager.

    Rio blanco natural Reserve

    7 Rio Blanco Natural Reserve. In the morning after breakfast at the Hotel we will go to the Río Blanco Reserve in the central Andes, this is just forty five minutes away from town, and is place for antpitta feeding stations, hummingbirds, tanagers and more; this reserve is famous for many years as this is one of the first known places in Colombia to go watch birds, this time we will be focus and photograph all the good birds as the Bicolored, Chestnut-crowned and Brown-banded Antpittas, one of the jewels visiting the tanager feeders is the stunning Buff-breasted Mountain-tanager, this within Blue-winged Mountain-tanager, Blue-capped Tanager, Masked Flowerpiercer, plus all the Hummingbirds that includes chances for a great picture of the pretty common Buff-tailed Coronet also Collared Inca, Bronzy Inca, White-bellied Woodstar, Bronzy Inca and the unbelievable Long-tailed Sylph!

    Drive to Cali

    Drive to Cali and visit a Hummingbird feeders place by the end of the day. In the morning after breakfast we take the road towards Cali, In the Afternoon visiting a new place our group will be shooting hummingbirds, tanagers, woodpeckers; lots of great birds like an appetizer for the upcoming days.

    La Florida to the Km 18

    La Florida Birding to the Km 18 Cloud Forest. One of the most wanted birds of our trip will be possible during this day, and that’s that breathtaking and stunning Multicolored Tanager, an endemic species from the western and central Andes of Colombia that luckily comes to this top place where taking photos is such a pleasure, there our host does the best to make feel ourselves at home and of course we will enjoy the setting and the backgrounds when shooting all the pretty birds that includes Saffron-crowned, Golden-naped, Golden, Black-capped, Flame-rumped Tanagers and many other cool ones, another endemic coming to the feeders is the shy Chestnut Wood-quail that comes to the corn feeders, other birds around can be possible such as Chestnut-capped Brush-finch, White-throated Quail-dove, Little Tinamou and off course pretty hummingbirds as the cute Greenish Puffleg, Fawn-breasted Brilliant, Speckled Hummingbird, Western Emerald, for sure many mores species that inhabits this pretty western Andes cloud forest.

    Dona Dora Birding

    Doña Dora Birding. This place is consider the best backyard birding of the whole world, a place where we can enjoy photographing the astounding Toucan Barbet within some of the pretty interesting Choco species of tanagers and hummingbirds that includes Rufous-throated Tanager, Silver-throated Tanager, White-lined Tanager, Golden Tanager, Purple-bibbed Whitetip, Rufous-gaped Hillstar, White-whiskered Hermit, Green Thorntail, Velvet-purple Coronet, Crowned Woodnymph and extra staggering birds that will provide tons of photo opportunities.

    San Felipe Birding

    San Felipe Birding to the Km 18 Cloud Forest. Our last day of the trip is going to be visiting two more locations in one of those there are three feeding stations where the opportunities to take great pictures are pretty high, some of the good birds includes the astonishing Red-headed Barbet, the pretty hard to see Orange-billed Nightingale-thrush, the endemic Chestnut Wood-quail, Blue-necked Tanager, White-lined Tanager, Saffron-crowned Tanager, the hair-raising Crimson-rumped Toucanet; a great place in our last day and still more, in the afternoon the turn is for Bosque de Niebla, another of the Km 18 places where we will try for Green Hermit, Fawn-breasted Brilliant, Long-tailed Sylph, Andean Emerald; a very complete day to finish up a wonderful trip full of great captures and experiences in the beautiful country of Colombia.
