Jose Luna Solarte

Co-founder & Birding Guide

Meet Jose Luna Solarte, a professional guide who has been immersed in birding across the entire Colombia since 2007. Although born in Cali, the main city in western Colombia, he has spent his entire life in the countryside, where his deep passion for nature took root. His journey into birdwatching began through the 'Titiribi' program, a commendable initiative by the Non-profit Organization Asociación Río Cali. Jose actively participated in this program for several years, honing his skills and knowledge. In 2010, he officially stepped into the role of a bird guide, serving for various national and international companies. After more than ten years of experience he is co-founder at Caracara Nature Tours.

Ivan Esteban Castillo

Systems engineer

Ivan Esteban Castillo, born in 1999, evolved a passion for computers and web development from a young age. He earned a degree in Systems and Telecommunications Engineering from Cauca University in southwest Colombia. In 2023, he attended a summer camp in New York, where he enhanced his English proficiency in a diverse environment, strengthening his adaptability. These skills are invaluable for a developer in today's globalized industry. Ivan is known for his professionalism and dedication. When he commits to a task, he ensures it is completed meticulously and to perfection. He loves basketball and do exercise. He has played an essential role in the development of Caracara Nature Tours web page.

Miguel Lopez Martinez

Birding Guide

Miguel Lopez Martinez, born in 1991, possesses a profound passion for birding and dedicated service. His journey into the world of birdwatching commenced at the age of 22. Initially, he embarked on his birding adventures as a guide at the Rio Blanco Reserve, situated in the central Andes of Colombia. Renowned as a watershed protector reserve for Manizales city, this place is always been one of the top birdwatching sites in Colombia. Over the course of four years, Miguel honed his skills and expertise as a local guide. His adeptness in English further fortified his capabilities, propelling him into the role of a national tour leader. Embracing this new chapter, Miguel has experience guiding for companies such as Colombia Birdwatch, Birding Tours Colombia, and Icaro Birding. Miguel is a charming guide who will make your birding experience in Colombia truly memorable.

Jose Luis Borbon

Birding Guide

José Luis specialized in birding since 2019 with extensive experience in the department of Cundinamarca and in the last two years throughout the Colombian Andes. In addition to being a zootechnician, he is also a professional tour guide. His focus on birding goes beyond simply identifying birds, as he has a solid understanding of bird behaviour, biology and ecosystems. He also speaks English, German and Portuguese.

Giancarlo Ventolini

Birding Guide

Giancarlo Ventolini Zuluaga, a Publicist born in the city of Santiago de Cali, has been a part of the team at Fundación Amatea since 2010. Fundación Amatea is a non-profit organization dedicated to Restoration and Environmental Education in rural areas of Cali. Giancarlo has served as an Operational Technician and Environmental Interpreter within the organization. Since 2012, Giancarlo has been an avid birdwatcher and has been actively training as a bilingual birdwatching guide. His passion for birds has led him to participate in research projects in areas such as km 18 and the San Antonio Forests, as well as numerous expeditions across the Colombian Andes, Inter-Andean Valleys, Caribbean, Eastern Plains, Choco Biogeographic region, San Andrés Archipelago, and the Amazonian Foothills. Currently, Giancarlo works as a professional tour guide for various national and international birdwatching agencies. He has had the opportunity to participate as a support guide in birdwatching tours in northern Peru, the Beni savannas in Bolivia, and Costa Rica in Central America.
